Lai Xaak aru Masor Petu Bhaji / Fish Intestine with Mustard Greens

Eating fish intestine may sound bizarre but we Assamese people love to eat fish intestines. Lai xaak aru masor petu bhoja or fish intestine with mustard greens is a simple Assamese style fish intestine recipe. It is served in the main course with rice as a side dish.

INGREDIENTS:


  • 100 gm fish intestine of any fish, big or small
  • 1 cup finely chopped mustard greens 
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 2-3 tbsp mustard oil
  • Salt to taste.

METHOD:

  1. Clean and wash the fish intestines under running water.  
  2. Cut the chillies lengthwise and make half of them. 
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Add onions and turmeric.  Add fish intestines and cook for 2-3 minutes till the oil separates. 
  4.  Now add finely chopped mustard greens,  green chillies and salt. Cook till mustard greens becomes soft and tender. 
  5. Remove from heat. Serve hot with rice.
