Fish curry with mustard greens (Lai Xaak)


Lai Xaak or Mustard greens is a green leafy vegetable. Mustard greens contain a lots of vitamins and minerals and as such very healthy and very tasty too. I love this green leafy vegetable very much . This vegetable has a wide use in Assamese cuisine.  From making salad, chutney and many veg recipes , a very tasty fish curry recipe can also be made. It's a very simple recipe,  made without spices. Assamese recipes are less spicy recipes but much more healthy. Sometimes adding powdered spices spoiled the real taste of the vegetables.  So do try this fish curry recipe for healthy living.


The recipe of Fish curry with mustard greens (Lai Xaak)


Ingredients:


  • 4 pieces of fish(any)
  • 1 bunch of mustard greens
  • 1 tomato
  • 1/2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2+1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • Salt to taste


Method:


  1. Wash fish pieces and rub with salt and turmeric powder. Wash mustard greens and chopped it roughly. Cut tomato in pieces,  no need to make a fine chop. Chop green chillies.
  2. In a pan heat oil.  Fry fish pieces. Drain and keep it aside.
  3.  In the remaining oil add ginger garlic paste and turmeric powder. Add chopped mustard greens.  Stir and fry. Add tomato pieces, green chillies and salt. Stir and fry. Add 1 cup of water. Bring to boil. Cook until mustard greens become soft.
  4.  Add fried fish pieces. Cover the pan and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat. Serve hot with rice.

Pork with mustard greens  is a very popular recipe many of you may have tried but  have you tried chicken with mustard greens . Mustard greens in Assamese is called Lai xaak and chicken in Assamese is called Kukurar mankho . Assamese Style Jute Leaves Fritters ( Mora Xaakor Bor)

  Jute  is an edible leafy vegetable, rich in vitamins and fiber. Jute in  Assamese  called Mora xaak . There are two varieties of jute leaves found in Assam. One is little bitter in taste which is known as Titamora . The other one which is not bitter is called Mithamora . Boiled Jute Leaves

 Jute leaves are rich in vitamin E,  A and C. Boiled jute leaves is a very simple yet tasty recipe that can be served as a side dish with rice in lunch.
