Restaurant Review : Urban Palate, Dibrugarh


Today we visited Urban Palate situated at Khalihamari, Dibrugarh for a family lunch.  As today is Sunday, a lazy day, we wake up late in the morning and as such we were late for the lunch too. It was about 2p.m. and we were very hungry. So we decided to choose Urban Palate for our lunch as it's very easy to reach, at a very convenient place and got no problem for parking the car.

As we four (me, my husband and our two kids) reached the restaurant, it was almost empty but soon it was filled with many customers. I noticed that all the other customers were of young age and may be students.  So at first I was pretty confused about the type of this restaurant. Whether it's a family restaurant or a gathering place for youngsters.

In a dilemma I checked the menu. The menu is very unique and innovative that promises good things. It contains fast food, Chinese and main course in its menu. The menu was very well explained. But as I enquired, I found that many of the items in the menu were not available.



I carefully checked the menu. As my kids are very young and can't eat too hot and spicy food, I ordered something according to their taste.  Many Indian restaurants serves too hot and spicy food which are not kids friendly.



I ordered French Fries and Country Style Buttermilk Fried Chicken for starter.

No doubt french fries are all time kids' favorite. The country style buttermilk fried chicken was too good and not hot at all. It was well presented and well garnished. Both my kids enjoyed it fully.

For the main course we orders two plates of Chicken Dum Biryani.

Chicken dum biryani served with onion raita was good. Each bowl of biryani contained two large chicken pieces and one egg each. The taste was good and all the items were served in a very less time.

There was nothing for the dessert in the menu.  So we skipped the dessert and had ice cream outside the restaurant from a street vendor.

The boy was very attentive but I think he was not very well trained. We were not served any extra plate for keeping chicken bones and wastes. Even we served our meal ourselves. Restaurant must give priority on serving food in correct and proper manner to their customers. 

The food was good and the charge was very reasonable.  The good thing is that they didn't charged any extra tax or GST.

Cheese Corn Toast Recipe

Cheese Corn Toast is a simple breakfast recipe that can be prepared within just 5 minutes. This cheese corn toast is my daughter's favorite.  I made this last Saturday.  If you are a follower of me on Instagram , I'm sure you have seen this pic.  With the similar idea I made Roti Pizza (Indian flat bread pizza) last Sunday.

Assamese Anguli Pitha Recipe

Anguli pitha is a finger shaped recipe made from rice flour.  The Assamese word 'anguli' means fingers and 'pitha' is a type of rice cake. It's an Assamese style recipe that can be served as breakfast(jolpan) or as a snack with the evening cup of tea.

The recipe anguli pitha requires little time to prepare.  As today is Sunday, a holiday, I decided to prepare this recipe for breakfast. It's a very simple and less spicy recipe. This recipe that I am going to share is a salty one but there is one sweeter version of this anguli pitha recipe, which I will share some other day. The type of rice that I am using is called 'lahi chawl' in Assamese which I received from my maternal uncle who is a farmer and he grows rice on his own paddy field. You can use any other type of rice also.  You can also use ready-made rice flour available in the market.  But I preferred to make it myself and therefore I soaked 1 cup of rice on Saturday night to prepare anguli pitha.

Fish and False Roselle leaves Curry

The false roselle or Hibiscus acetosella is a similar plant like roselle. The difference is that the leaves of false roselle are red in colour and roselle leaves are green in colour. The false roselle leaves has also sour taste just like the roselle leaves.  So like fish and roselle leaves curry  we can also make fish and false roselle leaves curry.

Semolina and Coconut Ladoo | Suji and Coconut Ladoo

This coconut suji ladoo or semolina and coconut ladoo is a very delicious Indian sweet dish. This suji ladoo is generally made during festivals like Diwali. It's very easy to prepare but the procedure is little longer. You need to roast semolina first in order to remove it's raw taste. Use fresh grated coconut if possible.  The sugar must be very finely ground. You can make superfine sugar at home by using the food processor. This is probably my last blog post of 2019. Only couple of hours left for 2020 while I'm typing this recipe. The whole day I was very busy. From evening onwards I prepared many dishes as a part of year ending celebration. I made only vegetarian food today. Today is tuesday and in India  tuesday is considered as a holy day and therefor many Indians eat vegetarian food on tuesdays. We too eat vegetarian food on tuesdays but we have a different reason for it.  As my father-in-law died on tuesday,  we don't eat non-vegetarian food on tuesdays.

Fish and Roselle leaves curry is an easy and tasty Assamese style sour fish curry recipe (মাছৰ টেঙা). Roselle leaves (Tenga mora / টেঙা মৰা ) contains many vitamins and minerals and high dietary fiber. In Assam it's widely available during summer.  Eating sour fish curry in lunch or dinner is a good idea during summer to beat the hot and humid weather in Assam.
