Dry fish with colocasia leaves


Colocasia is a tropical plant found in entire northeast India.  Its every part is edible.  Its leaves, stems and roots.  But Some may not like it. And some may be allergic to it. There are many varieties of colocasia found in this region. In this recipe  I am using small colocasia  plant's leaves with stems.


There are many varieties of dry  fish  available in the market. Here  in this recipe I am using small dry fish which are dried on smoke over the open fire cooking stove by the village people.


INGREDIENTS:

• A bunch of colocasia leaves with stems

• 2 tbsp lentil

• 10-15 dry fish

• 1/2 tbsp ginger garlic paste

• 1 small onion finely chopped

• 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder

• 1/2 tbsp black pepper

• 2 tbsp oil
&
• salt to taste


METHOD:

Soak dry fishes in warm water for 5 minutes.

Wash colocasia leaves with stems in running water.  Chop roughly.

In a pressure cooker take lentils.  Rinse and add 2 cups of water.  Add colocasia leaves with stems. Close  the lid. In high heat cook for 2-3 whistles.

Remove from heat. Let the cooker open itself.

In a pan heat oil.  Add ginger garlic paste.  Add chopped onions.  Add turmeric. Mix well.

Pour everything from the cooker.

In high heat cook for some time. Mix well.

Add salt. Add dry fishes.

Add black pepper powder.

Cook for 5 minutes in medium heat by covering the lid.

Remove from heat.

Serve hot with steamed rice.

  2. I totally think this recipe would work for me, minus the fish - vegan, sorry. If I'd take out the fish and make this with some beans I can see it becoming a delicious meal! :D

Bhoot Jolokia Pickle / Ghost Chilli Pickle

Bhoot jolokia/Bhut jolokia (ভোট জলকীয়া) or Ghost chilli is one of the hottest chilli on earth cultivated basically in Assam and some other parts of northeast India. The bhoot jolokias are two or three inches long and starts out green in colour.  It turns red only when ripened.  This ripened ghost chilli in the first bite gives an intense sweet chilli flavor.  The heat doesn't kick at the beginning. As you started chewing it, the heat kicks in and your mouth started burning together starts sweating and watery eyes.

Don't touch ghost chilli with bare hands after cutting.  But as we Assamese people do not use spoon and fork and eat our meal with our fingers, we have the practice of touching this red hot chili with our bare hands. Fish Egg Bhurji | Scrambled Fish Egg and Bamboo shoots

My blog has completed 3 years of its blogging journey this August, but the blog still needs to grow and I have still need to learn many things. This is the first post of the 4th year of my blogging journey and it is about a simple recipe of scrambled fish egg or fish egg bhurji .
