Easy Dhokla Recipe


Dhokla is a Gujarati recipe made from gram flour or besan. It is generally served as a snack. Here is a easy dhokla recipe I'm going to share today.

Easy Dhokla Recipe

Make easy dhokla at home and serve as a snack with green chutney.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup besan (gram flour) 
  • 1 cup water or as required 
  • 1+ 1/2 tbsp lemon juice 
  • 1 pinch turmeric powder 
  • 1/3 tbsp cumin powder (jeera)
  • 3/4 tbsp baking soda 
  • 1 tbsp refined vegetable oil 
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds 
  • 2 sliced green chillies 
  • 12-15 curry leaves 
  • Salt to taste 



METHOD:

  1. In a large bowl take gram flour. 
  2. Add 1/2 tsp of salt, turmeric powder, cumin powder, baking soda and lemon juice. 
  3. Add water and mix all the ingredients well. 
  4. Allow the batter to ferment for 1 hour. 
  5. After one hour grease the utensil with oil. Pour the batter in the utensil. 
  6. Boil water in a pan. Put a stand inside the pan. Put the utensil over the stand and cover the lid. 
  7. On low flame cook for 15-20 minuted. 
  8. Insert a sharp knife inside the dhokla. If the knife comes out clean, remove from gas stove.
  9. Now heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When crackling add curry leaves and sliced chillies. 
  10. Add pinch of salt. 
  11. Add 2 tbsp of water and allow to boil. Squeeze some lemon juice. 
  12. Remove from heat and pour the tempering upon the dhokla.
  13. Cut the dhokla into pieces and serve with green chutney or any other chutney of your choice.
