Fish curry with Spinach (2)


Spinach is a green leafy vegetable and is one of the healthiest greens. It grows during winter and has many health benefits as it contains lots of vitamins and minerals. Spinach in Assamese  is called paaleng xaak. This fish curry with spinach recipe is a very simple fish curry recipe.  You can serve this recipe as a side dish with steamed rice.

The recipe of Fish curry with Spinach


Ingredients:

  • 4 pieces fish
  • A bunch of spinach
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1/3 tsp whole cumin seeds
  • 1/3 tsp ajwain
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  •  1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2+1/2  tsp turmeric powder
  • 4 tbsp tbsp oil
  •  Salt to taste



  Method :

  1.  Wash fish pieces under running water.  Rub with salt and turmeric. In a pan heat oil. Fry fish pieces. Drain and keep aside. Do not throw the remaining oil.
  2. Wash spinach under running water.  Boil spinach, drain and let it becomes cool.
  3. In a blender  blend the boiled spinach into a fine paste.
  4. Heat the remaining oil. Add chopped onions.  Fry till translucent.  Add chopped tomatoes.  Fry till oil separates.
  5. Now add cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and salt. Stir and fry. Add spinach  paste from the blender. Mix well.
  6. Add fried fish  pieces and saute over high heat till glossy.
  7. Add 1/4 cups of water and bring to boil. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.  Add garam masala and cook for another 5 minutes.
  8. Add cream. Mix well.
  9. Serve hot.
