Fish curry with spinach

Spinach is a green leafy vegetable and is one of the healthiest greens. It grows during winter and has many health benefits as it contains lots of vitamins and minerals. Spinach in Assamese is called paaleng haak. Fish curry with spinach is a very simple but tasty fish curry recipe. No spice is added in making this curry and therfore is very healthy. Any kind of fish can be used in making this curry, but fresh fish tastes better with spinach.

The recipe of Fish curry with Spinach


  • 4 piece fish
  • 1 bunch of spinach
  • 1 tomato
  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1/2+1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • Salt to taste


  1. Wash fish and rub with salt and turmeric powder. 
  2. Chop spinach,  tomato and green chilies.
  3. In a pan heat oil. Fry fish pieces. Drain and keep aside.
  4. In the remaining oil add fenugreek seeds. When crackling,  add turmeric powder.
  5. Add chopped tomato,  spinach and green chillies.  Stir and fry. Add salt and 1 cup of water. Bring to boil.
  6. Add fried fish pieces. Cook for 5 minutes by covering the pan.
  7. Remove from heat . Serve hot with rice.
